3. Procedures Related to Insurance and Pension

For those enrolled in National Health Insurance

Those enrolled in National Health Insurance (NHI) who change their name or address due to divorce, who newly sign up for NHI, or who are enrolled in an insurance plan other than NHI are required to go through the necessary procedures.

Those Enrolled in the National Pension System

 

Those insured under Category 1 (including the self-employed; agriculture, forestry and fishery workers; part-time workers; students; and the unemployed.)

If your name changes upon divorce, you must register this change to your name.

 

Those insured under Category 2 (such as company employees or civil servants who are enrolled in Employee's Pension plans)

To change your name upon divorce, please contact your employer's pension insurance company about the necessary procedures. This must be done through your employer.

 

Those insured under Category 3 (a spouse dependent on Category 2 insured person)

Upon divorce, if you are no longer a dependent of a person insured under Category 2, you are required to change your status to Category 1, unless you are enrolled in an employee's pension plan or other pension plan yourself.

In the event of divorce, the welfare pension paid during the marriage can be divided and each of you can receive your own pension.

 

Those Receiving a Pension

If your name changes due to divorce, you are required to register the name change.

 

Insurance ID Cardholders of the Latter-Stage Elderly Health Care System

If you change your name due to divorce, you are required to go through the procedures for registering this change.

Those Covered by Long-Term Care Insurance (LTCI)

If the name of a person covered by LTCI (a person insured under Category 1 aged 65 years or older, or a person under 65 years old certified as requiring long-term care or support) changes due to divorce, name change procedures must be completed.
